Let Mother Nature Help Us

There is only one planet we truly know can support life. Earth is a home to more than 2 million species. If our world ends, no life would exceed to exist. If this happens, we humans are the cause of this destruction.

Burning coal is the number one source of creating electricity that cause greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide to harm our environment. Unfortunately, it is used to power more than half of the United States' electricity, along with natural gas, oil, nuclear, and hydropower. Hawaii depends too much on these nonrenewable resources for providing electricity, therefor leading to many issues in the environment. Due to this crisis, natural resources are starting to drop dramatically.

Hawaii is a chain of islands that are well-known for their tradewinds. Since wind is a natural resource, Hawaii can use the renewable resource to create electricity. This can happen by using a machine called a wind turbine. A group consisting of a great number of wind turbines is called a wind plant. A wind turbine takes the kinetic energy of wind and transforms it either to mechanical enrgy or elecrical energy. The outcome of all of this is WIND POWER. Wind power is capable of supporting 20% of the United States' electricity. The power that electricity produces is measured in watts. (Kilowatts= 1,000/ Megawatts= 1,000,000/ Gigawatts= 1,000,000,000,000)

A wind turbine that produces five megawatts can power 1,400 average American households. American households consume 10,000 kilowatts per hour each year. Using this type of turbine, more than 15 million kilowatts per hour can be produced. Though, the best parts of using wind power is that it does not form greenhouse gases, and it will not be affected by inflation. The installment of wind turbines in the U.S.A. will cost $7 billion. It is always better ti invest in this source of energy, than to invest in nonrenewable energy.

Wind power contributes to the whole world by producing affordable, inexhaustible energy. It will create new jobs for those who are in need. It will not harm our beloved Earth. Using wind power or other types of renewable resources for electricity is a step closer to making our world a better place for everyone.

  1. isabelle !

i like how you talk about how Earth is our only home planet that can support us & how OUR usage of oil can create change to earth's nature & everyone living in it from humans to species.

but i think explaining more about wind power/wind turbines will give a better idea that it can help lessen our consumption of oil. AND history of it on Hawaii will just make it even more better !

i can't wait to read your final essay (:

  2. Hey isabelle! It's czarina.
Okay, i really liked your essay. It was very informative and specific.

Now I will critique your essay by paragraph.

    [1st par.]
-Good start up in your introduction. At the end of this paragraph, I suggest you put something about wind power. Don't say what wind power is just yet. After this sentence: "If this happens, we humans are the cause of this destruction.", say something like. Example: "But there is a way to turn this whole detrimental situation around, and the solution to this is wind power!" then you start your next paragraph.

    [2nd par.]
-3rd sentence. Ooooops. typo. "therefor" should be "therefore.
-5 stars for the good information in this paragraph! ^___^

    [3rd par.]
-Eeeeek! Another typo in the 5th sentence. You put: "enrgy or elecrical energy." Change that to... energy or electrical energy.
-rest of the par. seems good.

    [4th par.]
-Typo in the last sentence: "It is always better ti [change this to "to"] invest in this source of energy, than to invest in nonrenewable energy."

    [Conclusion]
-Nice work! :D Nothing wrong here.

**Okay, like I said before, your essay is very detailed. I remember in the HECO interview, Mr. Steve Luckett said that wind power can effect our economy. I think you should include that in your essay. As of now, your essay is a 3/4, to me. Just add the "economical details" and it'll be biiiig, award winning 4! :) I'm pretty sure the paragraph you made in social studies about the history of wind power will also prosper your essay. Hmmm, grammar errors... not many... just remember to double check the spelling of some of your words. Voice: I can KIND OF hear your voice as I read your essay. In real life, you talk more casual rather than... scientific or.. businesslike... or professional-ish. haha. Other than that... your essay is suppppper! :P**

  3. HI Isabelle,

Your essay presents a lot of information on wind energy. As in your impromptu, however, it needs more specific connection to Hawaii. Where is or has wind energy been studied here? What were the results? Information like this would help the essay to address the topics in your presentation.
