Why Sci-Fi?

A good science fiction is a story that balances what the audience knows; and what the audience doesn't know, in order for the viewers to understand it. We have Sci-Fi today for ENTERTAINMENT. Sci-Fi movie makers along with writers have a need for exaggerating science. It all starts with the question...What if? What if somewhere in the near future, robots will carry out our daily life chores? What if a plague takes place on Earth, and turns everyone into ferocious beasts? These questions have the potential to create a storyline with a plot, that seems entirely too impossible to overcome. Sci-Fi arouses different emotions in the audience, with its unpredictable surprises.

When I think of Sci-Fi, aliens, lazer guns, and all of these most talked topics arouse in my head. With all of them popping in my head, I have found that there are different forms of Sci-Fi. Technology plays a big role in science fiction these days. Movies that are commendable of such work are Wall-E, Star Trek, the Matrix, Transformers, etc. Animators can have fun with technology in movies. The different sounds each gadget makes can actually set the mood for the audience. An example would have to be from Transformers. Every robot has it's own sound as it transforms in and out of car mode. In disney pixar's movie, Wall-E, each robot also has its own way of communicating, mainly pixelated voices.

What makes a sci-fi a sci-fi? Well for one, I can tell you that ever science fiction created has its own breakthrough. Breakthroughs are new creations that is well surrounded by the storyline. In I Am Legend, the breakthrough was the vaccine. Unfortunately everyone who took the vaccine ended up turning into diseased monsters. The main characters in the story each have a contribution to how the breakthrough affects them.

The challenges of making a Sci-Fi movie is making sure that the audience is capable of keeping up with the story. Losing the audience at a peak of the story is the last thing science fictions creators want. There has to be that special balance that teaches the audience the new information, and at the same time the audience has to have an understanding or a reference that they can go to during reading or watching a sci-fi story.
