The Only Time You Won't Get Busted for Popping a Load of Fireworks

It's around 10:00 in the evening. Just two more hours till 2009 is poof....gone. In my home, the aroma of fresh baked salmon lingers in the air. It has a hint of mild onion. As my father slides it out of the oven, the steam rises to the ceiling, and escapes out of the window. I can't contain this hunger any more as the salmon seems to stare at me right in the face, warm and orange. My grandma "nanay" comes into my house with a steaming pot of her famous delicious hot coco.
When she settled the silver pot onto my table, I take a peek. The rich smell of chocolate rose into my nose, also feeling the heat and moisture on the bottom of my chin. The next to come in through the door was my grandpa who was carrying a full plate of spaghetti. I loved the bright colors the spaghetti contained, which was a bright red sauce, and a settled yellow colored pasta, topped with shredded white cheese. I stare at my cable box which read 11:00 with the colon blinking every second. My mom yells out of the kitchen window,"Dinner time!" Everyone comes marching in right after the other filling the air with different conversations. My dad turns on our bose ipod stereo (speakers) and plays oldies music, mainly by the Jackson 5. As almost every father would do on New Years Eve, he starts dancing, making wacky movements. My family and I start a train of laughter, our eyes filling with tears. I pleaded him to stop as I was giggling, and so he did. Making our way to the table, we grab each others hands with the giggling slowly subsiding. I started the prayer, by thankng God for bringing us together. I thanked him for all of the blessings He has given to us, and prayed for the new year to be filled with many opportunities. We all shouted a big AMEN that seemed to overpower the continuous noise of fireworks. My cousin Hannah passes out the plates, and grab the food we want.
Sitting on my couch, I look out my window; nothing much to see but a huge tree that seems to stretch out like an umbrella. So, I jump off my couch and make my way to the front door, to see a free fireworks show. Outside is an endless explosion of fireworks, each ending with a KABOOM, and lights scattering as far as possible in the sky, bright with neon colors. I hear the sharp claps of the mini poppers as they hit the ground. As I re-enter my house, my family is talking and laughing all over the noise. My sister, Jessica turns on the TV, and I start the count down starting from 15. "10...9...8...7...6..5...4...3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!" I scan acroos my living room, and secretly smile to myself looking atmy aunties, uncles, grandparents, friends, siblings, and my parents giving endless hugs. 2009 sure has its memories, but we all just can't wait to fill 2010 with new ones.
